Silver bells, tinsel, turkey, presents, carols, lights, decorations and ribbons are all a part of this season. Actually that is fine and all should enjoy these as much as possible. Where we are dropping the ball is on how much we spend on what. This whole season is not just about buying gifts and partying. We are celebrating the birth of the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, JESUS CHRIST. Over two thousand years ago he humbled Himself to come to this earth in the form of a baby, born in poverty, and laid in a manger surrounded by animals. He didn't come in glory bound in fine fancy garments and wearing gold and diamond jewelry. A stable, that was his 5 star hotel. This great Saviour of ours never did do the things one associates with greatness and success. He was a humble man who served God.

Sure, he performed many miracles, but that was to benefit others, not Himself. Today we hear constantly about how the retailers are not doing as well as they expected. What a pity. People all over America are hurting and they simply do not have the money to spend. This fascination with how much we spend on what has got us more worried than what have we done to honor the good Lord. Maybe, just maybe, if we were to cut back on some wasted spending and give to those who really are in need than we might just have a more blessed Christmas and a more prosperous New Year. Jesus said "when you do it to the least of these, than you do it to me." He cares about everyone. Were we more like Him, and did more for others, think of what a better world this would be. No, I am not suggesting that we deprive our own families or even ourselves, but, many of us have a lot extra and we should share some of it. Think of what just a little from us would mean to someone who has nothing. The feeling of not having "The Christmas Spirit" has been the subject of many books and movies.

The one real way to get this spirit is probably best portrayed by the story "A Christmas Carol", when Scrooge finds the real spirit by giving to others.

No matter how much or what we give, we can never out give Jesus.

When Jesus took man's sins upon himself, He endured untold suffering, ridicule, torment and death. He gave us the gift of salvation and eternal life simply for the asking. We need to honor Him and to celebrate His birthday by doing just a little of what He asked us to do.

Make this year a very special Christmas. Find someone who is hurting and do something nice for them. Share with others. Maybe even help a child have a real Christmas and to enjoy some of what we so much take for granted. There is so much suffering and hurt in this world that it is not difficult at all to see someone who is far worse off than us. The real "Spirit of Christmas" will pour in and fill you with joy when you help someone else. Give it a try.

The holiday season is one filled with many feelings. Extreme happiness, anticipation, love, and even a sense of magic fill many. Despair, hurt, loss, loneliness, and even regret are the companion of others. Suicides are at an all time high at this time of year. Many simply give up totally from feeling so depressed and forlorn. Don't let this happen if you can help stop it. A kind word or a small deed of good is all it takes to change many.

Look back at two thousand years ago and to what joy a small babe brought into this sin ravaged world. A weary world rejoiced. Today, He is still with us and that same rejoicing can be found and shared. We owe it to Him to honor Him and do His bidding.

I pray that each of you will feel that very special warm content feeling that comes from doing good. During this Christmas season what better way and how better to enjoy it than knowing you made your Lord and Saviour smile on His birthday? I hope each of you finds the real meaning of Christmas this year and that each of you has a very Merry Christmas. May God truly bless you. To my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, a very Happy Birthday!
