A teenager was charged with felonious assault after he stabbed his mother with a butcher knife because she did not bring him a cheeseburger, police said.

Aaron Dean, 18, of 425 West Bancroft St. was charged with felonious assault, drug abuse, and providing false information to police. He was being held in the Lucas County jail Friday on $25,000 bond.

His mother, Vergie Dean, 41, arrived home with food for herself about 1 a.m. Friday. Mr. Dean "became irate" because she didn't bring a snack for him, police said. He pushed and grabbed her around the neck as she fought back. During the struggle, the teenager stabbed his mother on the right arm with the knife, while the mother used a smaller knife to cut his hand, police said. The teenager discarded the weapon and fled, but was arrested 15 minutes later.

Both were treated at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Mr. Dean was 7 years old when his mother was first issued a warning letter about his unruly behavior, Lucas County Juvenile Court records show.

He was found delinquent in connection with petty theft at 14, delinquent in connection with robbery at 16, and delinquent in connection with felonious assault, menacing, a probation violation and two counts of failing to pay restitution at 17.

He was convicted as an adult of disorderly conduct for a Dec. 19 incident and sentenced to 30 days in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio near Stryker. He was put on probation for one year, during which time he was required to take prescribed medication, attended counseling sessions at the Zepf Center, and commit no other crimes.
His mother, Ms. Dean, currently faces charges of having weapons under disability and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as two counts of drug possession.
